WebGL version is up. Other small updates/fixes.
As I inch ever closer to the "complete" 1.0 version of this game, I find myself more and more interested in making it available on other platforms. For what it was, I consider my previous and first game, Cataclysm, to be a huge success. I made zero dollars on it, and there are still things in it that badly need to be updated, but it's a genuinely fun game. I've had the pleasure of watching probably over 100 different kids play it at my work, and their reactions to it are more than enough affirmation that I made something good.
But then there's always the questions:
"Is it on the app store?"
"Can I play it on iPad?"
"Is it on PS4/5/Xbox/Switch?"
Nope. You need a Windows PC, two PS4/5 controllers, and a friend to play it with. That's a whole lot of barriers, and there's not much I can do about it. The game simply would not work on mobile devices.
MicroCosmic isn't like that, though. And I've had it in the back of my mind from very early on that I want mobile compatibility to be feasible. Currently, no such build of the game exists, and I need to learn how to do a bunch of things to make it work in that format. But, seeing the game run in a browser has made me really appreciate the importance of making the game easy to access and play.
Okay, enough ranting. Notable updates:
Bug fix: The ammo pickup dropped by the HC Turret was bugged so that you couldn't collect it. Weird!
Camera: The maximum zoom out distance has been greatly increased, making the game even easier to play. The less aimless wandering, the better.
Force Fields: There is now a tiny bit of visual feedback from the force field when they are triggered; they will flash white.
Raw plasma projectiles: I finally re-drew the sprites, and added a trailing particle emitter. I think it looks pretty neat. The V-Raptor's "Meteor" shot also now has an emitter like this. It looks significantly better.
Heat-Seeking Missiles: I overhauled their behaviour. It was a perfectly functional first-attempt approach, but it looked weird. Now, it behaves more like you'd probably expect.
That's all for now. <3
